The village is part of the Hidden Valleys area and historically marked the southern gateway to Sherwood Forest. Papplewick Pumping Station is a fascinating historic attraction designed in the 1880s that pumped fresh water to the residents of Nottingham. Millions of gallons were pumped every day at this Victorian water pumping station, which is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument offering a wonderful day out at its museum and landscaped grounds.
The pumping station has many original features including an Engine House with twin beam engines and a Boiler House with six Lancashire Boilers. The venue holds regular steaming events and guided tours, as well as being a wedding venue.
Papplewick village has a tea room, pub, village hall, and the Grade I listed St James' Church, as well as Papplewick and Linby Cricket Club based at the historic Papplewick Hall.
