Get DirectionsThe Jessop Monument is a 70-feet high structure created in honour of English civil engineer William Jessop, famous for his work on canals and early railways in the 18th and 19th centuries.
He was chief engineer at the Cromford Canal Company and a partner in the Butterley Company, which he founded with fellow civil engineer Benjamin Outram. The monument created in 1854 has a viewing platform, not open to the public, that offers views of the Erewash Valley. It can be seen from Monument Lane in Codnor Park.
How to get there
By car: Exit at junction 26 on the M1 and take the A610 exit to Nottingham/Ripley. Continue on A610 and drive to Monument Lane in Derbyshire.
By train: Langley Mill train station (3.4 miles).
