Bestwood is a civil parish in Nottinghamshire with a village of the same name found close to Hucknall. It is located in picturesque countryside, where there are several excellent walking and cycling trails, and is part of the region's Hidden Valleys area. Many of those are found at the family-friendly Bestwood Country Park that has grassland and woodland areas with plenty of wildlife. 

Mill Lakes at the park is a stunning place to visit, where visitors can go fishing or hire a boat to take out on the water. The area also has the Bestwood Winding Engine House, which was once part of Bestwood Colliery, and is a museum where the public can discover its history and encounter the winding engine.

How to get there
By car: Exit at Junction 26 on the M1 and take the A6002 and B683 to Bestwood Village.
By train: Hucknall station (1.4 miles).
