One of the Towns Deal projects funding two purpose-built construction training centres in collaboration with West Nottinghamshire College and Portland College.
Project updates
November 2023 – Work started on the build of the Construction and Manufacturing Centre at Portland College
May 2024 – Construction and Manufacturing Centre build completed
September 2024 – Leaners started using Construction and Manufacturing Centre at Portland College
February 2025 – Council purchased former Wilkos building
September 2025 – Initial work started on Wilkos building on Portland Square
In detail
These centres aim to address the shortage of qualified building tradespeople, expand training capacity, and provide inclusive opportunities for learners of all abilities.
The West Notts College project includes repurposing the former Wilko’s site on Portland Square and expanding facilities at the Julius Way campus.
The Portland College project is already complete and focuses on supporting neurodiverse learners.
